ZOE Japan: Zoom Meeting Notes and Thoughts

(Image taken from the ZOE Japan website, where you can find information in English or Japanese.)

A few months ago I was able to join a Zoom informational meeting about the phenomenal work ZOE is doing here in Japan. They are a nonprofit organization, fighting trafficking in many forms within the country, and they have both foreign and Japanese staff.

Their three main goals are:

Prevention
Rescue
Restoration

If you know someone in Japan who is being trafficked or in a compromising situation, you can call their hotline: 050-3185-3322 or use Line @267UIAKB.

Trafficking doesn't necessarily mean crossing borders---many children under the age of eighteen are trafficked within Japan. That we know of, about 37,000 people are trafficked in Japan and 14,500 girls are trapped in the JK (joshi kosei) business (where underage girls are tricked and trapped into prostitution and the porn industry).

One massive problem is the thriving demand for child porn---it's 30 to 50 times more profitable than adult porn.

Some of the high-risk apps for Japanese kids are Twitter, Instagram, Yay, and Line.

As of 2014, the Japanese government made child porn illegal, but anime, manga, and illustrations are exempt. There is a huge sexual objectification of children here in this country, with young children even  using porn terms in everyday life. The age of consent for sex is just 13, and many of the children drawn into this evil world have already been victims of prior sexual abuse.

"ZOE" means "life," and they are dedicated to absolute fullness of life! The staff quoted Isaiah 61:1:

"The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me, for the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed."
