"Letter from Birmingham Jail"

"Was not Jesus an extremist for justice?"

and

"The time is always ripe to do right."

I've read Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Letter from Birmingham Jail" a number of times, but hearing my husband read an excerpt of it today to our boys really made me weep. I cried for my ancestors who probably participated in slavery and segregation and the harm they caused, I cried for those hurt by me or anyone in my family, I cried for myself and the times my heart has been hard.

(Here's the letter in full.)
