Two resources I've leaned on this week:
"This Little Light of Mine" on YouTube, produced by Listener Kids, shows an animated light bulb walking through a dark city, shining as she goes! Then she's joined by two more light bulbs, shining and shouting through the darkness--it reminds me so much of our prayer walking on Saturday nights. Even when we don't have words, even then, we are Light because Jesus is Light in us. (Thanks to Hope House here in Kanazawa for introducing me to this video during kids' time on Sunday.)
And this episode of the Nomad Podcast: Simon Jay and the Urban Walker, a devotional on walking in prayer in the city, looking for Jesus in those around you, and asking God to speak to you as you walk. Simon Jay is a community development worker in Birmingham, UK, and lives in a "rough" neighborhood of immigrants and those hit very hard by the austerity measures of the government. He says walking helps him live in community as driving in a car never did, with its barriers and moving from place to place on autopilot. This reminds me, too, of our prayer walking here in Kanazawa as we listen for God's leading in each step we take, aware of those around us. I am encouraged to continue living and walking in the Light.
David Benjamin Blower's (goose-bumpy) prayer at the end of the episode:
"May God hold us in love, heal us in breakage, and guide us on into strange newness. Amen."
